ABOUT TOUCH FOR CANCER
Touch For Cancer’s oncology aesthetic training prepares licensed Aestheticians (Estheticians) to provide comfort and relief during Aesthetic Therapy treatments for clients who may be undergoing treatment for cancer.
Why is this necessary? With more Oncology Aesthetics knowledge and training, spas will be recognized as centers for therapy and healing. Trained Aestheticians (Estheticians) will be more respected by clinical health practitioners.
Those undergoing treatment for cancer – during their diagnosis, treatment and recovery – should have access to oncology aesthetics. Such services should be available at spas – whether they are hospital-, wellness- or day-spas. Clients living with cancer may have a difficult time adjusting to the physical side effects of receiving chemotherapy or other treatments. Their Aestheticians (Estheticians) should be prepared for this challenge.
Some of the important facets of Touch for Cancer’s training discusses massage therapy during Aesthetic Therapy treatments, as well as the importance of touch. Massaging the face, hands and feet during Aesthetic Therapy treatments can provide excellent therapy to aid pain relief and relaxation.
According to more than 100 studies at the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine, touch in the form of massage during aesthetic treatments helps to reduce pain, mood disturbance (anger, anxiety, depression, confusion) and fatigue in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
“Massage can be safely given to clients/patients living with cancer as long as the massage therapist is properly trained for certain precautions”, says Gary Deng, MD, PhD, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City
